Saddles Are Personal
The problem with trying to describe and recommend a type of bicycle saddle is that they are all very personal items and a saddle that feels perfectly comfortable for one person is going to be torture for another. This is as true for saddles from the same manufacturer as much as it is for saddles made by different manufacturers.
One person may find the Fizik Arione to be a perfectly comfortable saddle and then move across to the Antares, which has a slightly different shape and different dimensions and find the saddle is nowhere near as comfortable on the butt.
What may also be noticeable is that one saddle may be perfectly comfortable for shorter rides of, say, up to fifty miles but then become increasingly uncomfortable beyond. Alternatively a saddle that is difficult to use over the shorter distances due to power issues or a sinking feeling from the hammock style of surface may prove to be the ideal saddle for riding on all day.
If you can find a bike shop that will allow you to take some examples of their saddles for test rides you should jump at the opportunity. Being able to try out a saddle before you buy one is going to be invaluable. The alternative is to try out a friend’s saddle or someone from your local cycling club and get a feel for the saddle that way.
